The Indiana Jones Halloween costume has been, and remains, one of the most popular Halloween costumes for adventurous little boys everywhere. While our kids are surrounded by gadgets and the latest technology, the fact remains that nothing quite captures the heart of a young boy like a dangerous trek into nature to discover lost treasures from yesterday.
Indiana Jones's character is an adventurer, soldier, and professor of archeology. He first appeared in the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981 and went on to do 3 more feature films in the series. There was also a show produced that ran for four years, which depicted a young Indiana Jones going on adventures around the world. He also has his own attraction at Disneyland, something that elevates him to iconic status, particularly amongst youngsters.
Both the Indiana Jones movies and the series are based in the past. The first movies was set in 1936, and pitted Jones against the evil Nazis. The series which was produced showing a young Jones, also incorporated many historical figures from that time, like Ernest Hemmingway and John Ford, into the show.
This mix of adventure and history is a potent combination, and the backdrop of the time period allows for a simpler setting, and more focus on the storyline and the characters, rather than the gadgets or special effects like you see today.
One of the main appeals of the Indiana Jones Halloween costume, and the reason his character is so enduring, is Jones's simplistic fight against good and evil. He undertakes noble quests, and uses his smarts, and his environment, to emerge victorious. What little boy wouldn't want to be able to imagine himself as that character? (The utterly cool, and iconic signature hat he wears while doing it doesn't hurt either!)
Jones is also depicted as very human, with fears and insecurities that he's not afraid to show. He has a famous fear of snakes and is often found in situations where he is forced to confront that phobia. The fact that someone so noble and brave can be paralyzed by such a common fear endears him to youngsters even more. It allows them the freedom to be the adventurer, to set off on their own mysterious trek, confident that they too can triumph even with their own fears and insecurities.
While kids love the adventure and bravado that Jones represents, parents love how he incorporates a reverence for knowledge into his character. Jones has an encyclopedic knowledge of ancient cultures and civilizations, and is shown to be a teacher of archeology at a college. The fact that he can be a learned and educated man, while still being rugged and open for adventure makes him a great role model for little boys everywhere.

The Indiana Jones outfit allows your little adventurer to create his own memories of bold treks into the unknown. It allows him to search for ancient relics, rely on his smarts and ingenuity, and somewhere along the journey, to find his own strength of character.
